Flashback Harper

Hattingdon is so pretty in pink in this Chanel inspired fashion hat. Vivian named the hat Harper. But there is much more to the story.

Harper is the second Hattingdon horse created by Vivian.

Curtis was the first and only Hattingdon for a long time — about two years.

Curtis merchandise did very well. We saw Curtis tee shirts all around the D.C. area, and eventually around the country and other countries too. This helped us immensely in raising the necessary funds to lobby and take action on behalf of horses who were in harm’s way.

For those of you who do not know Curtis yet, here he is — Mrs Farrell’s first and truest love!

Curtis the First.

Is he handsome . . . or is he handsome?

Now . . . back to the Harper story.

Staff continued to bug Mrs Farrell about creating another “Hattingdon”. So one snowy evening in 2009, two years after she created Curtis (also on a snowy evening), she created Harper — a sophisticated, very girlish Hattingdon— and that is how Harper “was born.”

Hattingdon Horses is the cartoon horses’ series name, and each hat is given its own distinctive name.

Happy Flashback Friday.

Anichka

The Anichka hat is made in Hattingdon’s distinctive classic silhouette, created in support of the people and country of Ukraine, in the blue and yellow colors of their flag.

The name Anichka in the Ukrainian, Hebrew origin — means grace, or favoured — and the reason we chose it for this hat, at this time.

Ukraine acquired a distinctive flag in 1949 under the communist regime. The Red Banner of the Soviet Union with its golden hammer, sickle, and star was modified for use in Ukraine by having a horizontal stripe of light blue added at the bottom.

After Ukraine again proclaimed its independence on August 24, 1991, many fought to maintain a communist system under that flag. Eventually, however, anticommunist forces were successful, and the flag was replaced with the nationalist blue-yellow banner on January 28, 1992, seen above.

Nat’l Margarita Day

Hello there. Let’s celebrate the margarita cocktail on its national day. First, a hat. Name? Fiesta!

Fiesta Hattingdon.

The hat you see above was created by Mrs Farrell in 2016 for Cinco de Mayo. That is a whole other story (see you back here on May the 5th).

In the meantime, WinCalendar.com tells us this:

Open quote

National Margarita Day seeks to appreciate the tequila-based alcoholic cocktail.

A margarita is a cocktail made of tequila, triple sec, and either lime or lemon juice served in a glass with salt on the rim.

The origin of the margarita is unclear as many bartenders around the world have laid claim to the drink’s creation. Several bartenders and restaurant owners in Mexico allege to have created the drink for a female friend with a name similar to Margarita.

Well, they get no argument from us, but have you heard any of that before? Mrs Farrell, creator of Hattingdon Horses, lived in Texas 20+ years and was exposed to numerous margaritas, and has not. Or perhaps she just can’t remember.

Cointreau’s version

According to Cointreau US, “The Original Margarita was created when Dallas socialite Margarita Sames mixed her two favorite spirits, Cointreau and tequila, together with lime juice, while on vacation in Acapulco back in 1948. This original recipe has stood the test of over 70 years’ time.”

No doubt.

National Margarita Day is believed to have emerged in the 1990s. It is observed annually on February 22nd.
