It is that time again to “get into the green” for the month of March. We have not been able to do it this year, so we recommend 2023’s Into the Greenhere. Sweeet!
At the moment though we are mostly bringing everything “into line” with what is being called “new and necessary changes” none of which seem necessary. Oh well. Sigh.
In the meantime, be of good cheer when you can — as much as you can. Thank you for spending time with us.
Celebrate National Flag of Canada Day — February 15th. Here are some ideas:
• Display the Canadian flag proudly at home or in your community. • Talk with others about the Canadian flag — adopted in 1965. • Educate others about the history and symbolism of the flag. • Share your love for Canada on social media using #CanadaFlagDay. • Participate in local events or parades honoring Canadian heritage. • Encourage discussions about national identity and unity among Canadians.
The old and the new
The old flag featured the Union Jack and the Canadian coat of arms. The new flag, adopted in 1965, prominently displays a red maple leaf. The new flag symbolizes Canadian unity and identity more effectively. The old flag was seen as a colonial symbol, while the new flag represents independence. The new flag’s design is simpler and more recognizable internationally. The change reflects Canada’s evolution as a nation and its diverse culture.
Creating a new flag 1960-1965
In 1960, Lester B. Pearson, then Leader of the Opposition, declared that he was determined to solve what he called “the flag problem.” To Pearson, this issue was critical to defining Canada as a unified, independent country. As the newly elected Prime Minister in 1963, Pearson promised to resolve the question of a new national flag in time for Canada’s centennial celebrations in 1967.

Hattingdon really enjoys wearing her Canada hats. Let’s take a look.
Vivian has made both — pretty hats and cute hats — celebrating Canada throughout the years. We had to find some of these with our “way back machine”. Here are your faves.

Hope you enjoy it. Oh . . . by the way. Guess how we got the name for the hat. With AI. Yep.That’s right. It is perfect though, isn’t it? Wink.
Did you know the umbrella has its own day? The National Day Calendar celebrates it on the 10th of February. How very cool.
Vivian decided to use the umbrella as inspiration for a cool and colorful hat. The result is bright and fun. The Hattingdon umbrella hat is done in sections of red, yellow, green and blue with details in black. She named it Raine.

Celebrate
National Umbrella Day is celebrated every year on February 10th honoring one of the most practical and globally used inventions — the umbrella.
“Shielding us from pouring rain to harsh sunlight, the umbrella has quietly stood by humanity for thousands of years — proving that simple, useful ideas often last the longest.”
“While most people associate brollies with rain, umbrellas have long been used for protection from the sun. They are also seen and used in fashion, photography, art, cinema, and special ceremonies.”
