Vivian’s Fave Hats: Letter D

Vivian is having a blast picking out the hats. She is seeing designs she has not come across for a really long time. She has two delightful ones for us today starting with the letter D.

Classic Hat

This is one of Vivian’s earliest classic hats and another all-time favourite. It was inspired by and in homage to Donna Karan, so she named the design Donna.

Donna Hattingdon.

Donna Karan began her career as an assistant designer to Anne Klein in the late 1960s, where she was eventually promoted to associate designer in 1971. As Klein’s assistant, Karan was a participant in The Battle of Versailles Fashion Show on November 28, 1973.

When Anne Klein died in 1974, Takihyo Corporation of Japan became the new owner and Karan, together with her former classmate and friend Louis Dell’Ollio, became head designers of the house. The rest as they say is history.

Fashion Hat

Hattingdon does not have many hats whose names start with the letter “D”, but Vivian still had to do some to-ing and fro-ing while making her selection She finally decided on the Dewey percher, named after the Dewey Decimal system . . . naturally!  Ain’t she sweet?

The Dewey Decimal system was first published in the United States by Melvil Dewey in 1876. He was also a founding member of the American Library Association. Go Melvil!

Aren’t you glad you stopped by? You not only get to see a cute hats but also pick up the occasional interesting nugget or two. See you again soon.

“A Hatful of Smiles”

Flap happy

Flap header for the blog. Left to right: violet, yellow and grey winter hats with flaps to keep your face warm.

We are flap happy today. You will see why in just a moment. First, imagine Bing Crosby singing . . .

“Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!”

Snow. Freezing temps. Icy roads. Sigh. This frigid mess is just about over according to the weather people. And about time too. Until then, we got you covered. Well — we got Hattingdon covered — and you in a ‘hatful of smiles’. Look!

Vivian created the hat in seven colours: golden yellow, forest green, sky blue, vivid orange, pewter gray and violet purple by request. Let’s go!

And by your request, in the most luscious violet. Look!

See you again soon. With Love, Hattingdon & Co.

Yvette in blue

Summer is beginning to wind down, and Hattingdon has yet to wear her “Yvette” butterfly hat. Vivian created this hat with christenings and weddings in mind. The symbolic butterfly is perfect.

Here it is in baby blue. Hattingdon always looks extra sweet in blue.

Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. Butterflies are beautiful and have mystery, symbolism, and meaning and are a metaphor representing spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope, and life.

See you back here soon!
