The Anichka hat is made in Hattingdon’s distinctive classic silhouette, created in support of the people and country of Ukraine, in the blue and yellow colors of their flag.

The name Anichka in the Ukrainian, Hebrew origin — means grace, or favoured — and the reason we chose it for this hat, at this time.

Ukraine acquired a distinctive flag in 1949 under the communist regime. The Red Banner of the Soviet Union with its golden hammer, sickle, and star was modified for use in Ukraine by having a horizontal stripe of light blue added at the bottom.

After Ukraine again proclaimed its independence on August 24, 1991, many fought to maintain a communist system under that flag. Eventually, however, anticommunist forces were successful, and the flag was replaced with the nationalist blue-yellow banner on January 28, 1992, seen above.

Happy first day of Fall 2021

by Hattingdon Staff

Autumn 2021 in the Northern Hemisphere begins on Wednesday, September 22, and ends on
Tuesday, December 21 (dates are in US Eastern Time).

To get us in the mood — in Hattingdon style of course — how about a Fall hat? It is from 2018.

Hattingdon really rocks a top hat, don’t you think? The colours are gorgeous and look great on her.

See you again soon.

How about some poetry to go with this sweet hat?

The butterfly’s assumption-gown

by Emily Dickinson

The butterfly’s assumption-gown,
In chrysoprase apartments hung,
This afternoon put on.
How condescending to descend,
And be of buttercups the friend
In a New England town!

Oh, by the way, the 14th of March is National Learn About Butterflies Day.

Hugs and kisses, and millinery blisses. Love, Hattingdon.
