Deidre Classic

Greetings and salutations on this Classic Hat Monday. Today we have a fabulous classic hat for you, called Deidre.

The Deidre classic hat is a black hat with a striking red hatband. The hat’s dome and brim features a line of white houndstooth on them. Coordinating red ‘nosebobs’ complete the look.

By the way, we are often asked how we came up with the word ‘nosebobs’. Easy. We modeled it on earrings being called ‘earbobs’, a term used in the Old South of the United States for earrings or eardrops.

The classic hat

The classic hat is very, very popular and has been from the day it was launched in 2009. There are still many Hattingdon fans who prefer the classic hat to any other hats that she wears. How did it come about?

After a year or two of making a wide variety of hats for Hattingdon, Vivian created a basic hat silhouette with a round dome and medium wide brim. Then she started designing for it, and it ultimately became a series with a big following. She named it the “classic hat.”

The classic hat became popular right away, and enjoys a dedicated fanbase that is still going strong today, more than a dozen years later.

Monday Sugar

Hello and happy Monday. It is classic hat time once again.

Vivian, who creates all of Hattingdon’s hats, loves creating designs for her with an architectural influence. This is prettily expressed in the classic hat we picked out for you this Monday, design name “Sugar”.

Classic Genevieve

Hello again and welcome.

We missed Classic Hat Monday but that does not mean we are missing out on a classic hat this week. No siree Bob.

This hat was a mega hit when it was released. Vivian named the hat “Genevieve”. She loves stripes, and this hat also features her favourite colours.

We had a crazy start to the week. You know what that can be like. It is so nice to be able exhale and get back into our usual groove.

Oh, by the way. Here is where the expression ‘no siree Bob’ comes from. “It is an interjection (US, colloquial) meaning definitely not; no way.” (Source)

There is also of course, ‘yessiree Bob’. Its history is a bit more involved.

‘Yessiree Bob’ comes from “Yes sir!” The “ee” added to the end of “sir” is an exclamation of informality, positivity, and excitement. During the mid-19th century, “Bob” was used as a euphemism for “God,” as in “So help me, Bob!” According to Google N-grams the idiom came into substantial use towards the end of the 19th century.’ (Source)

We admit it. We had not heard of Google N-grams. We need to get out more. Wink. Bye for now!
