Autumn 2025

Updated November 11th.

Fall leaves. Changing colors. Rich hues. Dramatic tones. Sigh. At Hattingdon Horses we certainly enjoy the depth of beauty that is the Autumn season.

To create vibrant hats to go along with those sentiments, Vivian went all the way back to the beginning of Hattingdon to find something special that would inspire — and she did.

Look at these fabulous Lennox top hats.

When asked about the hats’ histories, Vivian said that the Lennox hat on the left was her first attempt at a Fall hat some years ago. The other Fall hat, on the right, arrived years later and became a big favorite, just as the earlier one did. Aren’t they lovely?

Thank you for visiting with us. Before we go, how about a poem by Robert Frost. Sigh. Love it.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

by ROBERT FROST

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Autumn and a poem

by Charmaine Jewell

Vivian loves poetry, especially A. E. Houseman who wrote a beauty about Autumn. Before we talk about that, here is a hat Vivian was inspired to create in the Fall of 2019 which she named Autumn.

Autumn Hattingdon colorful fall hat from Fall leaves.

By the way, the above is a recreation. The flash drive that the original Autumn was stored on was lost. At long, long last Vivian had time to recreate it — in all its glorious colors. Wow! We love it and hope you love it too.

Now . . . the poem.

A. E. Houseman

Now the poem.

A. E HOUSEMAN

Tell me not here, it needs not saying

A. E. Housman

Tell me not here, it needs not saying,
What tune the enchantress plays
In aftermaths of soft September
Or under blanching mays,
For she and I were long acquainted
Knowing all her ways.

On russet floors, by waters idle,
The pine lets fall its cone;
The cuckoo shouts all day at nothing
In leafy dells alone;
And traveller’s joy beguiles in Autumn
Hearts that lost their own.

Autumn was the season of choice by poet A. E. Housman (1859-1936).

It’s Fall 2023

Autumn Hattingdon wears a cap featuring an array of colorful Fall leaves.
Open quote in Hattingdon brown.

The first day of fall is Saturday, September 23, 2023—the same day as the autumn equinox—in the Northern Hemisphere. The date varies slightly year to year, but it is usually September 22 or 23. On rare occasions, it can fall on September 21 or 24,” writes Country Living.

We celebrate the day with Hattingdon’s colorful and charming “Autumn” hat . . . .

Autumn

by Vivian Grant

Hattingdon just had to have a new hat and decided on an Autumn inspired one (although she already has the darling Asher Top Hat). Here it is, named a just a bit predictably (smile) . . . Autumn.

We have two versions of her new Fall leaf crown hat. Which one do you prefer? The one beginning with the gold leaf or green leaf?
