Lollipop Day

In 1908, candy maker George Smith created the first modern lollipop. According to his memoirs, he named the treat after his favorite racehorse: Lolly Pop.

National Lollipop Day is celebrated each year on July 20, and is the perfect day to celebrate hard candy, sweet treats, and being a kid.

Well, Hattingdon does not have a lollipop hat per se. BUT she does have a very pretty classic hat where a lollipop is featured. We named the design Melanie but no one around here calls it that — they call it the Lollipop hat. So we are sticking with it.

Isn’t she sweet?

History of the Lollipop

Jon Price, writing for CandyFavourites.com, states, “The first incarnation of the lollipop was probably created by cave people thousands of years ago who collected honey from beehives with a stick. Not wanting to waste the sweet nectar, they most likely licked the stick, thus inventing the world’s first lollipop. Good for them (good for us). “

“Archaeologists believe that ancient Chinese, Arabs, and Egyptians all produced fruit and nut confections that they ‘candied’ in honey, which serves as a preservative, and inserted sticks into to make easier to eat.”

What kind of lollipop are you celebrating with today?

Bye for now!

Social Media Day 2022

National Day Calendar tells us, “With the launch of Friendster in 2002 and MySpace in 2003, social media became mainstream. Then 2004 brought the founding of the king of social media, Facebook. Twitter encouraged us to be succinct by posting our thoughts with fewer than 140 characters. When we express ourselves better through imagery, Instagram, and Flickr offer all the sharing we can handle. And speaking of video, YouTube is the social place for everything from how-to to pop culture to what not to do with your fireworks on the 4th of July.”

And there is this . . . .

“First, there was the telephone, then the fax machine, and then social media — a revolutionary way of communicating,” writes National Today. “Since its creation, people have been able to connect with each other like never before. Friends and family can connect at any moment, and marketers have been able to reach consumers in an entirely new fashion. In fact, people use social media for an average of 144 minutes every single day. Because of its impact on society over the years, Social Media Day was born on June 30, and it has continued to grow in popularity ever since.”

How about a hat?

Hattingdon does not have a social media hat, but she does have a social media scarf. Design name, Skylar.

National Apple Pie Day

Hey, hello there. It’s National Apple Pie Day. Hattingdon does not have an apple pie hat, but she does have a hat featuring apples — a ballcap celebrating the “Big Apple” — the city of New York.

Fun Facts

•  National Apple Pie Day, America’s favorite dessert, is observed annually on May 13th.

•  The first apple pie recipe printed was in England in 1381. The list of ingredients included good apples, good spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron and cofyn (a type of pastry crust).

•  While the apple pie existed well before the Pilgrims landed on the eastern shores of what is now The United States, Americans wax poetic about how American apple pie is.

•  The phrase “as American as apple pie” has been around for more than 100 years.
