Run for the Roses 2022

Vivian is already being asked if she is creating a new hat for Hattingdon to wear for the 2022 Kentucky Derby. “I need to get cracking if I am,” she says.

She may be in good shape though. There are two hats Vivian created, one in 2012 and another in 2017, that Hattingdon has not yet worn for the Kentucky Derby. There is also a “classic hat” featuring red roses. Just for fun, let’s take a look at them.

First we have the Susanna picture hat of 2012, not made for the Derby but she could wear it — especially if it was warm and sunny.

Here is the star of all Hattingdon Kentucky Derby hats — the Jenny Rose, created in 2010.

Then we have the Jenny Rose 2017 saucer hat. Hattingdon looks stunning, and very grown up . . . perhaps a bit “saucy”?

And finally the Jenny Rose “classic hat”.

What do you think? Which one should she wear in 2022? We are leaning toward the Susanna hat, weather provided. However, she could easily wear the picture hat from 2012. She last wore it 10 years ago . . . after all.

Bye for now.

Super Bowl LVI

Update: Congratulations to Super Bowl Champions Los Angeles Rams! — Hattingdon.

There are very few events on American television that rate higher than Super Bowl Sunday. Let’s celebrate the occasion with a couple of fun hats.

There’s “JoJo”, a football-inspired puffy-crowned fashion hat; and referee “Terry”, in a striped ball cap with gold star and whistle.

Love, Hattingdon

Nat’l Plum Pudding Day

Hello there. Not sure why we are celebrating plum pudding in February, except it is listed on the National Day Calendar!

Hattingdon’s not complaining. She adores her plum pudding hat. Here she is, modeling it just for you.

The name Christmas pudding is first recorded in 1858 in a novel by Anthony Trollope.

What’s in it?

Plum pudding is usually made up of nutmeg, raisins, nuts, apples, cinnamon, and dates, along with other ingredients.  In England, traditionally every person in the home holds onto the wooden spoon together to help stir the batter. While they are stirring, they also make a wish!  Plum pudding is also called plum duff.

See you again soon.

Edison

We pay tribute to Thomas Alva Edison, born on this day, the 11th of February.

Created in 2018 —and named after the great inventor himself — here’s Hattingdon’s “Edison” bowler hats and light shows.

There’s more! The “Edison” bowler hat also comes in multi-colored light bulbs.

This is one of our favorite Hattingdons ever. It has Vivian’s unique imagination and sense of humor stamped all over it. Brava!

The Genius

Edison developed many devices in fields such as electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures. These inventions, which include the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and early versions of the electric light bulb, have had a widespread impact on the modern industrialized world.

Edison was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of organized science and teamwork to the process of invention, working with many researchers and employees. He established the first industrial research laboratory.

Happy birthday Mr. Edison!
