Flashback with Yvette

Yvette Hattingdon butterfly hat blog header in sunny yellow.

These hats were created for Hattingdon several years ago for attending spring and summer weddings. They are also very nice for christenings. Today we are sharing one in blue, and one in pink. Design name —Yvette.

Aren’t they lovely? We love the use of butterflies in design. And butterflies are quite symbolic. We found this:

“Butterflies are beautiful and have mystery, symbolism, and meaning and are a metaphor representing spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope, and life.” writes Gardens with Wings.

Well, that fits perfectly with hats for weddings and christenings, doesn’t it?

We also found these wonderful thoughts about the butterfly at the University of Michigan website but unfortunately the link was alerted as unstable, so we copied the following quickly and got out.

Rounded Open Quote in Gray

“In its metamorphosis from the common, colorless caterpillar to the exquisite winged creature of delicate beauty, the butterfly has become a metaphor for transformation and hope; across cultures, it has become a symbol for rebirth and resurrection, for the triumph of the spirit and the soul over the physical prison, the material world.”

“Among the ancients, is an emblem of the soul and of unconscious attraction towards light. It is the soul as the opposite of the worm. In Western culture, the butterfly represents lightness and fickleness.

“Note Owen Warland’s spiritual progression in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Artist of the Beautiful as it parallels the development of the butterfly which he struggles to mechanically recreate. In China, secondary meanings of joy and bliss. Is very closely related to love, especially with wings and when being burned in Cupid’s hand that is not holding the bow. Wantonness, especially in Shakespeare. In Yeats, the opposite of the hawk, intuition as opposed to logic.”

Liberty

Liberty Hattingdon blog header artwork.

Vivian has been going through all of her design files and rediscovering some really wonderful Hattingdons. Here is a darling creation she had totally forgotten about. Today, the 4th of July, seems the perfect day to “liberate” it and give her a post of its own.

Liberty.

The Statue of Liberty has as many colorful stories surrounding her. Here are a few basic facts instead.

The Statue of Liberty is a 305-foot (93-metre) statue located on Liberty Island in Upper New York Bay, off the coast of New York City. The statue is a personification of liberty in the form of a woman. She holds a torch in her raised right hand and clutches a tablet in her left.

We do not think you will find many, if any to argue with any of above, especially the “personification of liberty in the form of a woman.”

We have another Hattingdon coming right up in a few minutes — a 4th of July Classic Hat!

Happy 4th. Love, Hattingdon & Co.

The mighty Quinn

Here’s Hattingdon wearing a sweetheart hat, with its magnificent, wide upswept brim in red, white and blue — adorned with an anchor. Vivian named the hat Quinn — after a song that came to mind while she was creating it. More on that in a minute, but first . . . . the hat!

Quinn Hattingdon.

Adorable! Now, the song — the Mighty Quinn.

Remember this anyone? By the inimitable Bob Dylan, performed below by Manfred Mann, considered the quintessential interpreters of the song. Here are a few of the lyrics:

Come on without
Come on within
You’ll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn
Come on without
Come on within
You’ll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn

Everybody’s building
Ships and boats
Some are building monuments
Others dummy pound notes
Everybody’s in despair
Every girl and boy
But when Quinn the eskimo gets here
Everybody’s gonna jump for joy

Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter. Often regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Dylan has been a major figure in popular culture during a career spanning more than 60 years.

Paige Hattingdon.

Hattingdon has very few hats featuring a colorway including tans or browns because of her coloring, but we think this looks really well on her, don’t you? Hope you love it too!
