Autumn and a poem

by Charmaine Jewell

Vivian loves poetry, especially A. E. Houseman who wrote a beauty about Autumn. Before we talk about that, here is a hat Vivian was inspired to create in the Fall of 2019 which she named Autumn.

Autumn Hattingdon colorful fall hat from Fall leaves.

By the way, the above is a recreation. The flash drive that the original Autumn was stored on was lost. At long, long last Vivian had time to recreate it — in all its glorious colors. Wow! We love it and hope you love it too.

Now . . . the poem.

A. E. Houseman

Now the poem.

A. E HOUSEMAN

Tell me not here, it needs not saying

A. E. Housman

Tell me not here, it needs not saying,
What tune the enchantress plays
In aftermaths of soft September
Or under blanching mays,
For she and I were long acquainted
Knowing all her ways.

On russet floors, by waters idle,
The pine lets fall its cone;
The cuckoo shouts all day at nothing
In leafy dells alone;
And traveller’s joy beguiles in Autumn
Hearts that lost their own.

Autumn was the season of choice by poet A. E. Housman (1859-1936).

The artist in us

Curtis and Harper Hattingdon cartoon horses.

Hey, did you see this? “Oldest known human drawing was discovered, a hashtag-like abstract drawing with red ochre, 73,000 years old, in Blombos Cave, South Africa published in Nature.’ Wow.

Hattingdon creator Vivian has a creative mind, no doubt it, but she never thought of herself as an artist or dreamed she ever would or could be. She couldn’t even draw. Then she came across the Photoshop program, ordered it, taught herself to use it, and the rest as they say is history.

Curtis the First

The first Hattingdon she created was Curtis.

Curtis was a huge hit, and gained quite a large following. Then one of her friends suggested she make a “lady” Hattingdon. Again, she was not quite sure she could do it. But she could . . . and did. Harper was born.

What is that old saying? “You never know until you try”.

Thank you for spending time with us. We hope you enjoyed it.

Butterfly (poem)

Butterfly, the wind blows sea-ward,
strong beyond the garden-wall!
Butterfly, why do you settle on my
shoe, and sip the dirt on my shoe,
Lifting your veined wings, lifting them?
big white butterfly!

Already it is October, and the wind
blows strong to the sea
from the hills where snow must have
fallen, the wind is polished with
snow.
Here in the garden, with red
geraniums, it is warm, it is warm
but the wind blows strong to sea-ward,
white butterfly, content on my shoe!

Will you go, will you go from my warm
house?
Will you climb on your big soft wings,
black-dotted,
as up an invisible rainbow, an arch
till the wind slides you sheer from the
arch-crest
and in a strange level fluttering you go
out to sea-ward, white speck!

Int’l Day of Charity

Charity Hattingdon blog post header.

In 2012, the UN General Assembly set aside September 5th as the International Day of Charity.

Open quote in Hattingdon brown.

According to the members of the General Assembly, the day was set aside to increase awareness among the global community of charity activities and organizations. The day was also set aside to give a platform to charity related activities.

Charity Hattingdon.

Vivian created Charity Hattingdon on August 2, 2017, to help raise awareness plus bring in money through the sale of the design to aid and rescue horses needing our love, help and support. Charity was one of our highest sellers of all time, and is still a popular design. We hope she brings you a “hatful of smiles”.
